Jesus taught that when we serve those in need we are actually serving him. (Matthew 25:31-46) Serving others clearly puts our faith into action. St. John’s is a part of both local and global service ministries.
Victor-Farmington Food Cupboard
We partner with other churches in Victor and Farmington to operate the Victor-Farmington Food Cupboard. We provide financial support to help buy food and pay the bills. We also donate food, and sometimes a lot of it! The photo above is at our annual potato harvest where we raised about 1600 pounds of potatoes that were donated.
Garden Project
We maintain a garden over an acre in size on the land of one of our members who lives three miles up the road. During the growing season you’ll see the sign for it. We usually raise potatoes and sweet corn that we donate directly to the food cupboard. We also raise pumpkins which we sell to the community. Look for them in the corner of the parking lot in September of each year. All proceeds are given to the ELCA’s World Hunger Appeal and the food cupboard’s operating fund. Also, there is a small apple orchard on the church property. These apples are donated to the food cupboard.
Little Free Pantry
Just outside the church entrance is the Little Free Pantry. Members of the congregation and members of the community at large stock the pantry with non-perishable food items. Food is available to anyone in need at any time.
Family Promise
Family Promise is an organization that coordinates several congregations across the county to help families who are struggling with housing. Family Promise does more than just find homes. They provide whole life management to help families have safe and stable housing. We provide financial support, volunteers, and management help. Every year we build a parade float every year for Family Promise to use in parades across the county. The 2025 float is pictured above.
The Spot
The Spot is a grassroots organization that supports children in the Victor and Canandaigua school districts. We participate in their collections of school supplies, gifts, clothing, and other items students needs. Learn more about them at: thespotny.org
Lutheran World Relief
Lutheran World Relief is a global organization that provides emergency support in times of crisis and ongoing development in areas across the world. We provide direct financial support to them as well as support by creating crisis care kits, school kits, and more. See their work at lwr.org
